Ushers & Greeters
Christ’s Church Usher Responsibilities
1. When you receive an email with the date you are scheduled to serve, please accept or decline the request from the email or in Planning Center so the scheduler knows if a replacement needs to be found or not.
2. Ushers should arrive at church 15 minutes before service begins (8:45 or 10:30) and do the following:
Wear your Usher lanyard so you’re identifiable to visitors.
Ensure the signs are in front of the hallway leading to the children’s rooms and the sidewalk leading to the street.
Welcome the People to the church at the chapel doors. Ushers may invite people to have coffee and visit before the service in the hospitality room, or if they would like to pray before the service begins they may enter the sanctuary.
If there is a visitor please hand them a Worship Card, invite them to have some coffee before the service, direct them where the bathrooms and chapel are, and thank them for visiting us. If they have a walker or children direct them to the middle or front aisles if they are available as they have the most room.
5 minutes before the service begins (8:55 or 10:40) invite those outside to quietly find a seat as the service begins.
3. When a new family arrives follow the same procedure above, but if they are visiting during the 10:45am service also inform them that they are welcome to worship through the service as a family, that the nursery is available if a mother wants to nurse in private, and that children three through ten are welcome to join Christ’s Kids. If they have children joining Christ’s Kids direct them to one of the teachers for sign in.
4. If someone comes late, greet them at the doors and help them find a place to sit.
5. Keep the middle aisle available for families. As children re-enter the service help families make sure they have enough seats for their children to sit together.
6. Get a count of the People, including those in the kitchen, nursery, and Christ’s Kids, by the time of the Gospel Reading. There are pink slips to indicate the count at the tech table. The pink slip will be placed on top of the offering as it is delivered to the ministers during the Doxology.
7. During the 10:45 service, at the end of the sermon inform those leading Christ’s Kids that it is time to return.
8. After the announcements and prayer, pass the offering plates through the congregation.
9. During the Doxology (“Praise God from whom all blessings flow”) walk the offering basket up to the altar and hand it to the Acolyte.
10. After the invitation to receive communion (“The gifts of God for the People of God…”) stand in the aisle at the back row. As the Altar Party has receives communion begin dismissing for communion, allowing children to come first if desired.
11. After the service:
Straighten out the chairs and remove any trash from their backs.
Ensure the Bibles, hymnals, and Prayer Books are stored properly (Bibles in seat backs, hymnals and BCPs under the chairs).
Ensure the chairs have Welcome cards, pens, and offering envelopes, with Welcome cards in the front.
Remove the welcome table from the entrance, putting the items in the basket under the table and folding the tablecloth on top. Fold the table and put it in the hallway and put the donations box and basket in the sacristy near the bookshelf.
